Biography

Hem joined the Department of Rhetoric as a lecturer in Fall 2015. He earned his PhD in Rhetoric and Composition from the University of Louisville. He currently teaches undergraduate rhetoric courses. He has an extensive experience in teaching a variety of lower and upper level writing and literature courses, both in the United States and abroad. 

Hem specializes in the study of globalization, its relation to language diversity, and the role of digital technologies in teaching writing. He has published in journals such as JAC (2012), International Multilingual Research Journal (2011), Literary Studies, and Atlantic Literary Review (2007). He also has a chapter in Transnational Writing Program Administration, which received 2017 CCCC Outstanding Book Award. His current research concentrates on exploring the intersections between translingual and transmodal theories of literacy.
